Master Teachers

√ Our BSSP Teachers are visiting the campus of Montana State University this week. A big congratulations to eleven of our teachers who are completing their Masters in Science Education (MSSE). We give encouragement to 15 teachers who are beginning their Masters in Science Education through the Big Sky Science Partnership. The MSSE is an on-line and face-to-face masters program at MSU. The leadership each of you are bringing to your schools in Montana on the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Reservations will benefit our kids. I look forward to finding out which BSSP teacher will receive the first time deployment of OLPC laptops in August. –Micki

Welcome

This blog was started so members of the Big Sky Science Partnership could share their experiences using the One Laptop Per Child during the course of their OLPC contributors pilot project.

OLPCs Shipped

Received the laptops – 3 boxes to go through and make sure all is ok after shipping.

Just got an email from Adam Holt from the OLPC project on the contributor mailing list saying that he had just shipped 10 OLPC XO-1.0 laptops as well as 1 OLPC XO-1.5 laptop.  He said they would probably arrive on Friday.  Will post when they have arrived.

Once they arrive I’ll need to refresh my memory on how to check software versions, make sure everything is up-to-date… as well as learn how to install additional Activities.  I have to admit I’m a bit rusty but I’ll get it figured out.

Providing Technical Support

Just wanted to add in introductory post providing a few details about myself (my name is Scott Dowdle) and my involvement with the Big Sky Science Partnership.

  1. I’m involved with the MontanaLinux.org OLPC Lending Lab and I gave a presentation on Feb. 26th, 2010 to the Education Department at Montana State University Bozeman
  2. I got a call from Elisabeth Swanson shortly after the presentation indicating that she was interested in getting some OLPCs for a pilot project with the Big Sky Science Partnership and I volunteered my technical support services
  3. I’m the leader of the Bozeman Linux Users Group
  4. I’m the System Administrator for the Computer Science Department in the MSU-Bozeman College of Engineering

I look forward to working with the members of the Big Sky Science Partnership on their OLPC pilot project and hope some of their members will start blogging about their OLPC experiences here soon.
